Family Background
-
Born and raised in the ever growing city of Pune (India), famously known as the Oxford of the East owing to the large number of well-known academic and research institutions in the city ( highest among all cities in the country) in a well off Marathi house-hold
-
The elder among 2 children, I really had to grow up fast.
-
My father and my mother both being working professionals in their fields, a sense of maturity and responsibility came to me naturally.
I have always believed in logic. Everything happens for a reason. Everything can be explained. With my good academics, the sky was literally the limit for a career choice – it made a single choice all the more difficult. However, I was clear about one thing – I had to enjoy what I would be doing; job prospects or better pay would not play a role in the decision. Mechanical Engineering became an obvious choice because nothing would give me more joy than to apply my knowledge and problem solving skills to the challenges faced in the real world.
Hobbies and Past times –
Right from childhood, I have been an energetic and athletic child. Trekking has always been my favourite past time. From the small hills near my locality to the magnificent Himalayas, the Swiss Alps and Mount Kilimanjaro I have scaled many a peak. The quality of working tirelessly towards a goal until it is achieved was instilled in me because this.
Coming from a cricket crazy country, evening times during my schooldays involved fiercely competitive cricket matches with my friends. This is when I first learnt of competition and team work.
Reading, I always felt was the best way to gain invaluable knowledge. What started off with reading fictional stories like the Famous Five series and the dearly-beloved Harry Potter series, I would eventually mature to reading inspiring Autobiographies and motivational books.
I have always enjoyed spending time with family and friends. I feel privileged to have made some amazing friends. I am extremely thankful for the amazing support I received from my unbelievably strong parents and to-die for friends, when I faced the biggest challenge of my life till date – Crohn’s Disease diagnosis. A chronic gastrointestinal disease that made me miss 2 semesters of my Master’s Education. I suffered endless medical procedures through 2 long years of pain, suffering and depression.
This taught me 2 important things :
Life is full of obstacles and challenges. Enduring those and coming out on top, is what life is all about. Secondly, always take care of yourself. You can achieve anything in life as long as you have a healthy mind and body. Fight and continue fighting.
I came out of it stronger than ever. Although life altering, it left me with some invaluable gifts – an unbelievable mental strength and a will of steel to succeed in life.
I also learned an invaluable philosophy to lead a good life – My Dad made me realize that it is utmost important to ‘Be Humble in Victories and Gracious in Defeats‘ which I will strive to adhere to in my future endeavours.
